CONWAY - After playing in their final regular season tournament this past weekend, the Chanticleers play the College of Charleston at the Patriots Point Athletics Complex on Wednesday, March 21 in Charleston, S.C., in a double-header that begins at 4 p.m.
The Chanticleers head into the event ranked #24 in the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. Coastal played in the USF Under Armour Tournament this past weekend and went 2-3 earning wins over Long Island (1-0) and Bryant (10-0 (5)), while falling to Hartford (1-0), Kent State (3-0) and Boston University (7-1).
Coastal has a .275 batting average and a .374 on-base percentage. Through the last 30 games the Chanticleers have tallied 131 runs, 23 home runs and have been walked 111 times, while going 34-for-43 on stolen base attempts. Nationally, Coastal is ranked 20th in earned run average (1.61) and fielding percentage (0.973), as well as 33rd in win/loss percentage (0.733).
Individually, the Chanticleers are being led by freshman Kiana Quolas, who earned her third Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week honor for her play last week. Quolas is ranked second in the nation in earned run average (0.51), third in shutouts (7.0) and 16th in walks allowed per seven innings (1.01). Kory Hayden has also been playing well for the Chants, as she is eighth in sacrifice flies (3.0), 27th in home runs (8.0) and 59th in slugging percentage (0.756).
The College of Charleston Cougars are 15-11 on the season and are on a five-game winning streak heading into the double-header against the Chanticleers. The Cougars are batting .280 and have an on-base percentage of .343. College of Charleston has recorded 78 runs and 10 home runs, while they have been walked 52 times and have gone 25-28 on stolen base attempts.
The Cougars are being led by Ashton Jarrett, who has a team high .383 batting average, 15 runs and has gone seven-for-nine on stolen base attempts. Kelsey Hodgson has recorded five home runs and 15 RBI. Stephanie Saylors is 8-6 in the circle for the Cougars, striking out 81, while allowing only 12 walks, 30 runs and nine home runs in 77.0 innings pitched. Hope Klicker is 7-4 for College of Charleston, having struck out 44, while allowing 25 runs and nine walks in 63.0 innings pitched.
Coastal opens up Big South Conference play on the road on Saturday, March 24 against Presbyterian College in a double-header that begins at 1 p.m.
