Softball's Lee Named Big South Player of the Week

Senior Infielder Earns Honor After Five-Home Run, Five Win Week

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina softball infielder Holly Lee (Darlington, S.C.-Darlington) was named Big South softball Player of the Week, Mar. 18. She is the second Lady Chanticleer to earn the league’s in-season honor, as freshman pitcher Christine Doyle was named Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 26.

Lee was the offensive catalyst and a defensive standout for the Lady Chants last week, leading the team to a 5-3 record, including a runner-up finish at the Hokie Fastpitch Classic. Lee hit .440 (11-for-25), including five home runs, eight runs scored, 10 RBI, three doubles and three walks. She posted a 1.160 slugging percentage for the week and had a .500 on-base percentage. She hit safely in all eight games this week, driving in RBI in seven of them and scoring in six. She posted a streak of four consecutive games with a home run, three of them against No. 29 Mississippi State.The most important was the two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth against the Bulldogs, completing Coastal’s comeback in the 7-6 victory. She also had the game-winner against Virginia Tech, hitting an opposite-field two-run shot to lift the Lady Chants to a 5-1 win. She had three multi-hit and multi-RBI games this week. She also was perfect in the field, posting no errors in 78 opportunities.

Coastal Carolina (17-8) is back on the field today, hosting Georgia Southern in a doubleheheader at Coastal Carolina Softball Field at noon. The Lady Chants open conference play in Rock Hill, S.C., Fri., Mar. 21, taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The doubleheader, on the campus of Winthrop University, starts at 3 p.m.
