CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University's Kiana Quolas earned Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the fourth time this season, the league announced on Monday.
Quolas went 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA and two shutouts last week, highlighted by her first collegiate no-hitter against North Carolina on Wednesday. In that game, she struck out five and walked two to secure Coastal's 3-0 win, the Chants' first victory over the Tar Heels since 1996 and first ever at home.
Quolas followed up with a six-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Georgia State on Friday. Her lone loss came despite limiting No. 18 Minnesota to just four hits and one earned run on Saturday. The junior right-hander started the week with a victory over Eastern Illinois, allowing two earned runs on seven hits. For the week, Quolas allowed just 17 hits over 28 innings - four complete games - while recording 20 strikeouts.
The win over Georgia State moved her into second place in Coastal history with 57 career victories. She is now 11-4 this season with a 0.98 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 99.2 innings. She has pitched complete games in 13 of her 14 starts and leads Big South full-time starters in wins, ERA, strikeouts, opponents' batting average, shutouts and complete games. The weekly honor is Quolas' 13th of her career.
Coastal (17-9) returns to action this weekend for its Big South Conference-opening series at home against Gardner-Webb. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, beginning at 1 p.m., with a single game to follow on Sunday, March 23, also at 1 p.m., at Coastal Carolina Softball Stadium.
