KENNESAW, GA. -- The Coastal Carolina University softball team's game against Kent State was washed out after two severe weather delays at Bailey Park Saturday, March 15.
Coastal and Kent State played through a scoreless first inning before severe thunderstorms rolled through the area, forcing a three hour rain delay. Included in the delay was a tornado warning as a tornado was spotted approximately 15 miles north of Bailey Park.
Following the first delay, the Lady Chanticleers and the Golden Flashes played through a scoreless second inning before Kent State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as Heather Duhan and Kim Hamilton had back-to-back blasts to left field. However, a second severe weather delay, including another tornado warning, forced the game to be cancelled.
During the first delay, CCU's game against Kennesaw State was cancelled.
The Lady Chants return to action Sunday, March 16 at the Owl Classic. Coastal opens the day with a game against Manhattan at 11 a.m. and then ends the day with a game against Alabama State 1 p.m.
