CONWAY - Kiana Quolas has been named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, the league announced on Monday.
Quolas notched two victories and recorded a 0.81 earned run average in three starts during last week's Chanticleer Challenge to earn her sixth career conference Pitcher of the Week honor. She pitched complete-game shutouts in Coastal Carolina victories over Georgetown and Middle Tennessee State to extend her streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 37 before it was stopped in Sunday's game against James Madison.
The sophomore right-hander allowed just two runs and 10 hits, while striking out 11 in 17.1 innings of work over the three games. She also went 4 for 15 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.
For the season, Quolas (7-5) has been a part of five shutouts, four of them complete-games, and struck out 63 batters with just 14 walks in 76.1 innings. She has lowered her ERA to just 1.65 and surrendured five or fewer hits in eight starts, including each of her last seven. Prior to the James Madison game, in which she gave up only two hits, Quolas had gone five consecutive starts without allowing a run. Of the 65 hits she has allowed so far in 2013, only eight of them have been for extra bases.
Coastal Carolina (13-11) returns to action Tuesday, March 19 when it begins Big South Conference play with a doubleheader at Longwood.
