CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team is hosting the University of South Carolina in a double-header on Wednesday, March 7 with the first pitch taking place at 3 p.m.
The Chanticleers head into the game having won its last five games. Coastal enters the game coming off an 8-0 win against Saint Peter's in five innings on Sunday in the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Freshman pitcher Morgan Mastrianiarecorded her first collegiate no-hitter in the win. She struck out four and allowed just one walk in 17 batters faced during the five innings pitched. The Chanticleers last no-hitter came against Charleston Southern in the 2010 season.
Coastal is hitting .262 on the season and has an on-base percentage of .375. The Chanticleers have posted 76 runs and 16 home runs on the season, while recording 73 walks. Coastal has gone 21-of-25 on stolen base attempts.
Kory Hayden is leading the way for the Chanticleers with a .404 batting average, .491 on-base percentage, 16 RBI and six home runs. Hayden and Sarah Mapleseach have 11 runs on the season, while Maples is also leading the team in stolen bases (7-of-7).
South Carolina last played in the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif., where they went 4-0 beating Portland State 2-1, Maine 13-4 (5), UC Riverside 9-4 and UC Davis 3-2.
The Gamecocks have a .344 batting average, .426 on-base percentage, 139 runs, 63 walks, 78 strikeouts and they have gone 35-for-41 on stolen base attempts.
Leading the Gamecocks is Samie Garcia, who has a batting average of .478 and a team-high 24 runs and an on-base percentage of .514. Evan Childs has a team-high 21 RBI and Lauren Lackey has gone 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts this season.
Coastal next plays La Salle University at home on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m.
