CONWAY - Coastal Carolina sophomore Kiana Quolas has been named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Quolas recorded a 3-0 record and 0.00 earned run average over four appearances in last week's Coastal Carolina Invitational. She pitched two complete-game shutouts, including a one-hitter against Western Carolina on Sunday.
The right-hander scattered just nine hits and struck out 22 batters over 20.2 innings of work during the tournament, while walking only three. She pitched a three-hitter against Drexel on Friday while tying a season-high with 10 strikeouts, and then allowed four hits in 5.2 innings against Albany on Saturday. Quolas also contributed at the plate with six hits, including a home run and a double, four runs scored and two RBIs during the tournament.
In the circle, Quolas has won her last four starts and gone over 23 innings without allowing a run, dating back to the fourth inning of a victory over Loyola Chicago on February 24. She has lowered her ERA for the season to 1.90 and has totaled 52 strikeouts with just nine walks in 59 innings.
It is the fifth time Quolas has been named conference Pitcher of the Week, after earning the honor four times last season as a freshman.
Coastal returns to the field Thursday, March 7 at 2 p.m. against Georgetown to begin the Chanticleer Challenge.
