CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University's Ashley Bagwell was named the Big South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played February 17-23, the league announced on Monday.

In her lone appearance of the week, Bagwell pitched a complete-game one-hitter to lead the Chanticleers to a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southern Saturday night at the University of Florida's Lipton Invitational.

She held the Eagles hitless over the final six innings, retired 19 of the final 23 batters and pitched out of a two-on, nobody-out jam in the sixth inning to protect Coastal's one-run lead. It was her first career one-hitter, bettering her two-hit performances compiled against Liberty last season and Gardner-Webb in 2011.

In addition, the senior right-hander became just the second pitcher in CCU history to record 500 career strikeouts, joining Hall of Famer Michelle Hall. Bagwell struck out four in the game, giving her 501 in her three-plus seasons. She is the 12th pitcher in Big South history to reach the milestone and the first in three years.

It is her fourth career weekly honor and gives Coastal the conference's Pitcher of the Week award for the third straight time this season. For the season, Bagwell is 2-0 with a 2.58 ERA in 21.2 innings.

The Chanticleers (6-3) host the Coastal Carolina Invitational this weekend and will play two games each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, beginning with games against Marshall and Maryland Eastern Shore Friday at 2 and 4 p.m.
