CONWAY, S.C. The Coastal Carolina University Softball team has been picked to finish second in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll, it was announced Thursday (Jan. 25) by the Conference office. Radford was chosen to finish first in the Big South as voted by the league's head softball coaches and sports information directors.
Radford received nine first-place votes and 65 out of a possible 72 points. The Lady Chanticleers received three top votes and 56 points and was picked ahead of third-place Liberty who collected 52 points. Winthrop finished fourth with 33 points followed by Birmingham Southern (26) and Charleston Southern (20).
Liberty's Jessica Moore has been voted Preseason Player of the Year while Radford's Ashley Taylor was tabbed Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
Coastal finished the 2006 season winning the Big South Tournament and returns 14 letterwinners including six starters for the 2007 season. The season will kick off on Friday, Feb. 9, against the Lady Vols from Tennessee in the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.
