CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Big South Conference today released its annual preseason softball poll. Coastal Carolina University, the two-time defending Conference champion, was unanimously selected to repeat in 2002, garnering 12 first-place votes.
Winthrop University, last year's runner-up, was picked second, and Radford University finished third in the voting, which is conducted by the League's head softball coaches and sports information directors.
Elon University and Liberty University shared a tie of fourth place, while Charleston Southern University rounded out the poll in sixth place. UNC Asheville and High Point University do not compete in softball.
Listed below are the points each team received in the voting. The number in parenthesis indicates the number of first-place votes received. Included with this release is a complete breakdown of the voting.
