CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Big South Conference today released its annual preseason softball poll. Coastal Carolina University, the two-time defending Conference champion, was unanimously selected to repeat in 2002, garnering 12 first-place votes.
Winthrop University, last year's runner-up, was picked second, and Radford University finished third in the voting, which is conducted by the League's head softball coaches and sports information directors.
Elon University and Liberty University shared a tie of fourth place, while Charleston Southern University rounded out the poll in sixth place. UNC Asheville and High Point University do not compete in softball.
