Coastal Softball Tabbed as Preseason Favorite in Big South Conference

CHARLOTTE, N.C.— The Big South Conference released its 2003 Preseason Softball poll on Wednesday and Coastal Carolina topped the list with eight first-place votes and 87 total points.

Winthrop, Big South runners-up in the last two seasons, was picked second, while associate member Texas A&M-Corpus Christi edged Liberty, the League’s defending champion, for third.

Elon, Radford and Charleston Southern rounded out the voting, while High Point and UNC Asheville do not compete in softball. Birmingham-Southern is still a provisional member and is not eligible for the Big South Championships this season, but will play a round-robin schedule with all seven Big South schools.

The preseason poll is conducted by the League’s Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors.
