CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball team picked up two wins in its fall season against UNC Wilmington on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Coastal Carolina Softball Field. The Chanticleers won the first game 12-4 in five innings and finished the day with a 4-3 win in the second game. The Chanticleers improve to 3-1 in the fall season.
The Coastal offense was hot to start the first game, scoring seven of its twelve runs in the bottom of the first. Freshman Jessie Winans hit a three RBI triple to clear the bases in the first while junior Stacy Snellings went 1-for-1 with an RBI double.
In the fourth inning, senior Ashley Pisone hit a two RBI double while sophomore Olivia Piccirillo also had an RBI double.
Sophomore Jazmin Daigle finished the game, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and senior Michelle Evans went 2-for-2, earning an RBI.
Senior Katelin Edwards got the start for the Chants in game one and recorded her first win of the fall season. In three innings, Edwards allowed four runs on five hits and had two strikeouts. Freshman Ashley Bagwell finished the game, pitching two innings and allowing no hits while striking out two.
In game two, Evans got the start and the win, pitching four innings and giving up three runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Sophomore Megan Johnson threw the final three innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two.
Pisone got things started for Coastal in the third inning with a leadoff double and scored on a defensive error at third base on freshman Beth Kassuhn’s hit. Winans continued her good hitting, going 1-for-3 with a two RBI triple in the third. Daigle also went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
The Chanticleers will play a nine-inning intersquad scrimmage Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Coastal Softball Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
