Softball Falls to UTA at Sun Belt Tournament
Troy, Ala. - Coastal Carolina's softball season ended with a 9-1 loss to Texas Arlington in the team's first Sun Belt Conference Tournament game.
UTA was able to break open a close 2-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning using an CCU error, three hits, three walks, a passed ball and two fielder's choice miscues to score seven runs, six unearned, in pushing the lead to 9-1.
The Chanticleers (32-23) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth when Kassidy Smith was able to score from third base on a douoble stolen base attempt run down.
The Mavericks (30-24) had six hits, but it was eight CCU bases on balls that helped UTA the most.
Whitney Walton had two hits for UTA with Laura Curry having three rbi and Mallory Foster two to lead the Mavs offense.
The loss brings the Chanticleers season to a close with CCU once again winning 30 games or more. It was the sixth consecutive season CCU has won 30 or more games under head coach Kelley Green and with no seniors on the team, Green and the coaching staff will have a full roster of players returning next season that just completed its first season in the tough and talented Sun Belt Conference.
