CCU Softball Falls in Series Finale at UTA
Arlington, Texas - Coastal Carolina University's softball team jumped out quick on Texas Arlington, but could not sustain the momentum in an 8-5 loss in the series finale.
The Chants did not wait long to get on the scoreboard. Taty Forbes led off the game with a sharp single up the middle and following a walk to Kailey Mellen, Kassidy Smith connected on her 10th home run of the season to give the Chants a 3-0 lead.
That lead did not last long as CCU's defense committed three errors in the bottom of the inning leading to two unearned runs cutting the Chants lead to 3-2.
No one scored again until the fourth when the home team was able to push across three runs on two hits and a couple of sacrifices to take a 5-3 lead.
UTA adds two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to push its lead out to 8-3.
CCU made a run in the top of the seventh when Kailey Mellen hit a two-run home run, her fifth of the season, to centerfield to cut the lead to 8-5.
CCU is now 29-19 overall and 7-13 in conference play while Texas Arlington moves to 25-20 overall and 11-10 in the conference.
The Chanticleers will play be on the road for the final regular season weekend when they travel to Louisiana next weekend to face the Ragin' Cajuns. The two teams will play a double-header Saturday April 29 with the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
