Stranded Runners Cost CCU in Close Loss at Charleston
Charleston, S.C. - Coastal Carolina stranded seven runners, including a bases-loaded fifth, in a 2-1 loss at the College of Charleston.
The Chanticleers scored their lone run in the first inning when Taty Forbes led off the game with a single and came around to score on an RBI from Kailey Mellon, but that would be the lone run of the game for CCU.
Charleston scored in the fourth to even the score at one and won the game in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out home run from Jordin Jones.
The Chants (29-16) went two-for-10 with runners in scoring position in leaving the runners on base. Both teams finished with six hits as Forbes had two and Mackenzie Budinger added two.
Charleston (25-17) had two hits from Taylor Belflore who added an rbi. Izzy Berouty (8-4) came on in relief for the Cougars in picking up the win.
The Chants will hit the road this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference trio of games at Texas Arlington. Game one of Saturday's double-header is set to begin at 2 p.m.
