Softball Drops DH at Georgia Southern
Statesboro, Ga. - Coastal Carolina University hit the road for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Georgia Southern and the trip did not start out the way CCU had envisioned, dropping both games of the double-dip.
The Chants came from four runs down to take a 7-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see the home standing Eagles push across three runs to pull out the 8-7 win.
Adriano Toro led CCU's seven-hit attack going four-for-four with a double and four rbi's. Timi Tooley had two hits on the day, with one of those being a double.
After giving up four runs over the first two innings, the Chants scored two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. CCU was not done as they added a single run in the sixth to take a two-run lead.
From there the host pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on in the top of the seventh to pick up the victory.
Devin Wallace came on in relief, pitching 4.2 innings allowing seven hits and five runs, four earned in picking up the loss (6-4).
Game two was all Eagles as the host put six runs across home plate in the second, third and fourth innings on its way to a run-ruled shortened game in the 8-0 loss.
Ashley Guillette (10-5) picked up the loss pitching four innings and giving up six hits and six runs. The Chants defense committed two errors giving up an unearned run.
CCU is now 27-12 overall and drops to 5-6 in conference action while Georgia Southern moves to 17-19 overall and 7-7 in conference action.
