RADFORD, Va. - After hitting nine home runs on Friday, the Chanticleers looked to continue their hot streak at the plate on Saturday, but Radford didn't give up a home run as the Highlanders took the third and final game of the series 9-3. Coastal is 30-13 overall and 7-4 in Big South Conference action following Saturday's game.
Coastal built a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Sarah Maples picking up the first run of the game during Kiana Quolas at bat. During the Chants next at bat, Cacia Pierre would hit a single through the right side to advance Brooke Donovan home. Quolas scored the third run for Coastal on a wild pitch by Radford.
Radford pulled within one in the home half of the first on a home run by Vicki Madden to center field that scored Michelle Beall, who had reached base on balls.
During the bottom of the second inning the Highlanders tied the score at three a piece on a home by Morgan Eye.
In the fourth inning Radford took the lead when Ryndee Ruch scored during Nichole Beall's at bat. The Highlanders then made it a 6-3 game when Hannah Ojeda and Morgan Eye advanced home on Micalah Sacre's single to left field. Julie Harris singled to center field later in the inning, which allowed Sacre and N. Beall to score for the final runs of the inning.
Ruch hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth to put the Highlanders ahead 9-3.
Kory Hayden recorded the Chanticleers first hit in two innings during the top of the sixthwith a double to right-center field. The Highlanders retired the side before Coastal could get another runner on base.
Coastal recorded three straight outs in the bottom of the sixth against Radford. The Chanticleers were unable to get any runners on base in the top of the seventh, as Radford took the game 9-3.
Pierre finished the game with one hit and one RBI in three at bats. Donovan had one hit and one run in two at bats. Stacy Snellings tallied seven putouts, while Hayden had three assists.
Quolas finished the game giving up four walks and six hits in 20 batters faced in 3.0 innings pitched.
Jackie Jenkins pitched a complete game for Radford in which she struck out three, walked one and allowed four hits in 27 batters faced.
The Chanticleers return to action on Tuesday, April 10 against Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C., at 3 p.m. Coastal and the Buccaneers played a double-header on March 21 with each team recording a 1-0 win.
