CLEARWATER. Fla. - Playing in its final regular season tournament the Chanticleers knocked off Long Island 1-0 before dropping a 1-0 decision to Hartford on Friday in the USF Under Armour Tournament. Coastal Carolina is 21-6 on the season following the split.

During the first game the Chanticleers were in scoring position during the first inning as Kory Hayden advanced to third on a wild pitch, as Kiana Quolas advanced to second. Long Island earned the third out before Coastal was able to pick up a run.

The Blackbirds were held hitless through the first two innings. Lindsey Walker picked up the first hit for Long Island after hitting a single to left field, but the Coastal defense held its ground and didn't allow another hit during the inning.

Hayden recorded her eighth home run in the fourth inning knocking the ball to left field to put Coastal ahead 1-0.

During the top of the sixth inning the Chanticleers were again in scoring position, as Jazmin Daigle advanced to third on a stolen base, but Coastal was held scoreless in the inning.

Long Island threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded, but Quolas struck out Jazmin Rodriguez swinging to pick up the third out.

The Chanticleers only picked up one hit in the seventh, while Long Island got on base on a walk, but Madison Green flied out to left field to give Coastal the 1-0 win.

Hayden finished the game with two hits, one RBI and one run in three at bats. Daigle, Quolas and Jessie Winans each posted one hit in three at bats.

Quolas earned the win on the mound for Coastal after pitching a complete game, striking out four, allowing three hits and one walk in 27 batters faced.

Sarah Reynolds took the loss for the Blackbirds following a complete game, in which she struck out four, gave up six hits and didn't allow a walk in 26 batters faced.

The Chanticleers looked to take an early lead in the first inning against Hartford as Hayden advanced to third and Quolas advanced to second on a walk by Cacia Pierre. Hartford posted the third out of the inning before Coastal was able to get on the board.

During the Hawks first at bat Amber Andrews scored on a single by Peyton Fisher with the bases loaded. Coastal's defense didn't allow another run and headed into the second down 1-0.

Kelsey McNaughton advanced to third in the third inning on a walk by Chelsea Pineda, but the Hawks picked up the third out on a fielders choice to move the game into the bottom of the inning.

Hartford tried to extend its lead in the bottom of the inning with no outs, but Coastal picked up three straight outs to close the inning.

Both teams would have a few chances to score during the remainder of the game, but the defense for Coastal and Hartford played strong.

Quolas recorded two hits in four at bats and six putouts against Hartford, while Pineda finished the game with nine putouts. Maples and Nicole Saggiomo each had one hit in three at bats, as Donovan recorded a double in the sixth inning for the Chanticleers in her second at bat. Donovan was also walked in the second inning.

Ashley Bagwell pitched 6.0 innings for Coastal, striking out eight, while allowing seven hits and two walks in 29 batters faced.

Siera Sheehan pitched a complete game striking out four, giving up five hits and seven walks in 33 batters faced.

The Chanticleers return to action on Saturday, March 16 against Kent State at 9:00 a.m. Coastal also plays Boston University on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
