Coastal Carolina Wins On Final Day Of Arizona State Tournament
Tempe, Ariz. - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers bookend the Arizona State Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 6-2 come from behind victory over the New Mexico State Aggies as freshman Kaitlin Beasley-Polko picks up her sixth win of the season with a complete game.
The Aggies added two hits at the top of the second inning and then second baseman Kelsey Horton singled to left field to give New Mexico State the 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Caity Szczesny walked and then stole. Kelsey Horton was able to connect with her second run batted in of the game as she singled to right field to bring around Szczesny.
The Chants tied the score in the bottom of the inning, as sophomore Kassidy Smith got the first Coastal hit of the game and then the next batter freshman Taylor Sweigart hit her fourth homer of the season.
Freshman Courtney Dean led off the bottom of the fifth with a double down the left field line and then two batters later she came around to score on a Stavi Augur single to the right field fence. The Chants picked another run in the fifth to go ahead 4-2 when sophomore Kassidy Smith hit a long sacrifice fly to right to bring in Kailey Mellen.
In the top of the seventh, Beasley-Polko allowed a lead-off walk but then shut down Aggies to secure the victory.
The Chants to action as they return home to start the Sun Belt portion of their season on March 10th as they host Louisiana Lafayette at 1 p.m.
