MYRTLE BEACH - The Coastal Carolina softball team opened its home schedule in style Thursday night, hitting three home runs, including two by Kory Hayden, as it rolled to a 10-2 six-inning victory over Rhode Island in the first game of the Kickin' Chicken Classic at Carolina Forest High School.

Hayden went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, hitting a pair of solo shots for the first multi-home run game of her career. Jazmin Daigle also went 3-for4 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that provided the eight-run margin for the Chanticleers, who improved to 3-8.

The Chants totaled a season-high 11 hits in the game with eight of them going for extra-bases. Kiana Quolas and Cacia Pierre each had two hits, including a triple. Quolas drove in three runs and scored two.

Ashley Bagwell (2-2) pitched all six innings to notch the victory. She struck out 10, while allowing just one earned run on four hits. She walked two batters in the first inning, but went the remainder of the game without another.

After Rhode Island (0-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Coastal answered with two in its half. Quolas and Hayden delivered back-to-back doubles and a sacrifice fly by Pierre tied the game. Daigle followed with an RBI double to give CCU the lead and it stayed in front the rest of the way.

Hayden hit a deep homer to left leading off the third inning before Rhode Island got a run back in the top of the fourth. However, the Chants plated four runs in the bottom of fourth to build a 7-2 lead. An error, a walk and a fielder's choice loaded the bases and Quolas cleared them with a double to left. Quolas then scored on a passed ball.

Coastal then scored three runs with two outs in the sixth to put the game away. Hayden drove another homer over the left-field fence, Pierre tripled to the right-field corner and Daigle homered to center for her first of the season.

The tournament resumes tomorrow with three games scheduled, beginning with Rhode Island taking on Loyola Chicago at 9:30 a.m. Coastal will face Rhode Island again at 11:30, followed by a matchup against Loyola at 1:30 p.m.
