CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team was one of 568 teams to earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.
To qualify for the award, teams must post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the calendar year. Coastal Carolina won the award for the 11th consecutive time in school history and is one of eight schools from the Big South to earn the award this year.
Leading the charge for this year's nod was Big South All-Academic team member Jessie Benchley. The senior holds a 3.86 overall GPA and a perfect 4.00 GPA in the Coastal Carolina Exercise and Sports Science program.
Alyssa Clark also earned Big South recognition as she was tabbed a second team defender. Clark recorded one goal and a team leading three assists to tally five points from her outside back position.
The Coastal Carolina men's team also earned NSCAA All-Academic recognition, making Coastal Carolina one of only 153 schools nationwide to have both its men's and women's program recognized.
