Women's Soccer Falls to Charleston Southern 2-1 in Big South Tournament First Round

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Emma Mattsson scored two goals, including the game-winner at 77:20, to lead No. 5 seed Charleston Southern past No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina, 2-1, in the third game of the 2005 Big South Women's Soccer Tournament Thursday night at Eagle Field.  The Lady Bucs (8-11-0) advance to the semifinals for the third-straight season and will play the winner of #1 UNC Asheville/#8 Winthrop Friday night at 7:30pm.

Mattsson scored the game’s first goal at 43:33 to give CSU a 1-0 lead.  Lindsey Trexler assisted on the score, helping the Lady Bucs overcome a 13-6 disadvantage in shots.  Coastal Carolina tied the game at 1-1in the second stanza when Big South Freshman of the Year Blair Monroe scored her 17th goal of the year at the 52:54, with assistance from fellow First-team All-Conference selection Kristina Fisher.  The game remained 1-1 until Mattsson, a First-team All-Conference honoree, notched her second goal of the game and eighth of the year at 77:20 of the game.

Miki Wilson made eight saves in net for the Lady Bucs, while Jaclyn Stoll posted three saves for the Lady Chanticleers.  Coastal out-shot Charleston Southern by a margin of 21-10.

Charleston Southern, which has played the most Big South tournament games with 22, is now 7-11-4 all-time in the Conference championship.  Coastal Carolina lost its fourth-straight tournament contest and ends its season at 13-6-0.
