The Coastal Carolina University womens soccer team had two players selected to the 2004 All-Big South Teams, announced tonight (Nov. 3) at the Big South Tournament banquet in Charleston, S.C. Junior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) was selected to the All-Big South First Team as well as the Academic All-Big South Team, while senior Leah Barrett (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) was selected to the All-BSC Second Team.
Parsons leads the Lady Chanticleers in goals with nine and points with 19. She also is tied for fourth in goals and is seventh in points in the Big South. Parsons had played in all 19 of the Lady Chants matches and has taken 97 shots, 46 on goal. She has twice been named Big South Player of the Week on Sept. 14 and Oct. 5. She had a hat trick in a 5-0 win over VMI Oct. 2, the first of her career and had a goal in seven games. The all-time leading scorer in Coastal history, Parsons also was on the all-tournament team at the UNCG/adidas Classic Sept. 10-12. Parsons also has a 3.4 grade-point-average in physical education, leading to her first selection on the Academic All-Big South Team.
Barrett also has played in all 19 games this season, scoring three goals and adding three assists on the season. She moved to second on Coastals career goals list in a 2-0 victory over Longwood Sept. 15. She has three game-winning goals to her credit this season, tops on the team and tied for fifth in the conference. For her career, Barrett has 13 goals and 10 assists for 36 points.
In the specialty awards, Emily Langill of UNC Asheville received the Player of the Year, Birmingham-Southerns Keidane McAlpine was the Coach of the Year and the Panthers Anne McIntyre was the Freshman of the Year.
Coastal will face Birmingham-Southern Thursday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m., in the third quarterfinal of the 2004 Big South Tournament at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.
