Women's Soccer Earns Top Seed in Upcoming Big South Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina has claimed its second consecutive Big South women’s soccer regular-season title and has earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big South Women’s Soccer Championship in High Point, N.C., it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon.  The Chanticleers finished the season with a 6-2-1 League mark for 19 points.   Radford (4-1-4) and VMI (5-3-1) tied for second-place with 16 points in the regular-season Conference standings, with the Highlanders earning the No. 2 seed due to its 4-1 win over VMI during the campaign.  The Keydets landed the No. 3 seed.  Charleston Southern notches the No. 4 seed with a 4-2-3 record (15 points), and Tournament host High Point earned the No. 5 seed with a 3-2-4 record (13 points).  Winthrop earns the No. 6 seed (11 points) with a 3-2-4 record and UNC Asheville claims the No. 7 seed after going 3-6-0 in Conference play for 9 points.  Gardner-Webb (2-5-2 record (8 points)) receives the No. 8 seed.   While Presbyterian finished tied for sixth in the Big South standings at 3-4-2 (11 points), the Blue Hose are not eligible for the Championship due to its transition to Division I.  Liberty finished 10th with seven points (2-6-1 Conference record) and did not qualify for the eight-team tournament.   The 2008 Big South Women’s Soccer Championship begins Thursday, Nov. 6 with four games and concludes with the Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9.  The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.  All games will be video streamed live on the Conference’s premium content website, The Big South EDGE presented by State Farm.  In-game statistics will be available on www.BigSouthSports.com and www.highpointpanthers.com.   The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:   Thursday, Nov. 6 Game 1:  No. 3 seed VMI vs. No. 6 seed Winthrop, 11:00am ET Game 2:  No. 2 seed Radford vs. No. 7 seed UNC Asheville, 1:30pm ET Game 3:  No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina vs. No. 8 seed Gardner-Webb, 4:00pm ET Game 4:  No. 4 seed Charleston Southern vs. No. 5 seed High Point, 7:00pm ET   (The bracket has been adjusted to allow the host institution to play in the late match on the first day).   Friday, Nov. 7 Game 5:  Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner (Semifinals), 4:30pm ET Game 6:  Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner (Semifinals), 7:00pm ET   Sunday, Nov. 9 Game 7:  Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner (Championship), 2:00pm ET
