Women's Soccer's Borucinski, McColl Named to Academic All-District Second Team

    

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team had two players selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Women’s Soccer Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today (Nov. 2). Senior Simone Borucinski (Canberra, Australia/Daramalan College) and redshirt sophomore Emily McColl (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) were named to the team.

Borucinski, who is a health promotion major with a 3.74 grade-point average, has played and started all 18 games for Coastal. She is tied for the team lead and is fourth in the Big South with five assists. Borucinski also has three goals on the season, including a game-winner in CCU’s 2-1 win over Radford Oct. 14. She assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Appalachian State Sept. 2 and had a goal and an assist in Coastal’s 5-1 win over West Georgia. In her CCU career, Borucinski has seven goals and 10 assists for 24 points.

McColl, who is a biology major with a 3.98 grade-point average, has played and started in all 18 games and has three goals and three assists for nine points. The Wellington, New Zealand, native was named to the 2006 Academic All-Big South team Nov. 1. McColl had a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over Appalachian State Sept. 2 and scored just 25 seconds into the game in a 2-2 tie against Wofford Sept. 4. She had assists in wins over VMI and Longwood and now has 19 points in her CCU career.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American program. The academic team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with a minimum grade point average of 3.20. Team members are selected by a vote of members of College Sports Information Directors of America within the district.

Coastal (12-5-1), the second seed, faces seventh-seeded Radford Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., in the first round of the 2006 Big South Women’s Soccer Tournaement. Coastal defeated Radford 2-1 in the two squads’ earlier meeting Oct. 14.
