Three Chants Earn Sun Belt Women's Soccer All-Conference Honors

Nov. 1, 2016

NEW ORLEANS, LA. - Three members of the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team garnered Sun Belt All-Conference honors as part of its 2016 season awards, the league announced Tuesday. The selections were made in a vote by the league's 11 head coaches.

Senior forward Amber Adams and junior forward Daniella Famili were named to the All-Sun Belt first team. Senior goalkeeper Becca Austin was a second-team selection.

Adams established herself as a force all over the field in her senior season with the Chants. The Piscataway, N.J. native, started all 18 games playing 90 or more in seven contests. She became one of the team's key players in the attack scoring four goals while dishing out two assists. In every game that Adams has netted one or assisted on a goal, the team went on to win the game.

Famili played in all 18 games in her third season, after quickly becoming one of the team's top offensive playmakers last season she continued to establish that role once again. She recorded eight goals, just one short of her career high of nine last season, while tallying two assists. Famili had four game-winning goals including two back-to-back games with game-winners which earned her Player of the Week honors. She had recorded at least one point in 10 of 18 games.

Austin was named to the all-conference second team as a goalkeeper after playing 15 of the 18 games, missing three due to injury, during her senior season. With Austin anchoring the backline, the Chanticleers allowed just 18 goals, the second fewest in program history, and recorded 10 shutouts, tied for second-best for a season. The native of Dallastown, Pa. garnered Sun Belt Defensive Player of the week twice this season for her outstanding performances one that including returning to the pitch after missing three games recording back-to-back shutouts.

Coastal now has 31 All-Big South first-team selections and 27 second-team honors in the 17-year history of the program.

The championship tournament begins in Foley, Ala. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The opening match will pit No. 2 Coastal Carolina vs. No. 7 Arkansas State at 10 a.m. (CT). Semifinal matches take place on Friday, Nov. 4 and the championship scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. (CT).
