Women's Soccer's Gunning Named Big South Player of the Week

, N.C. – Coastal Carolina senior Ashleigh Gunning (Baton Rouge, La.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for games played Oct. 20-26, it was announced today by the League office.   Gunning had a clutch performance last week for the Chanticleers, scoring her fourth game-winning goal of the season to lead Coastal Carolina to a 1-0 victory over VMI.  Gunning’s goal in the 78th minute came off her left foot from 15 yards out and was assisted by seniors Emily McColl and Heather Haupt on Senior Night.  The win kept the Chanticleers in first-place in the Big South Conference at 6-2 and in contention for their second straight regular season title.  Gunning leads the team with seven goals and 15 points, with three of her game-winning goals coming in Big South matches.    Also nominated for women’s soccer Player of the Week for Week 10: Caitlin Wesnesky (Charleston Southern), Angie Harvey (Gardner-Webb), Marisa Abbott (High Point), Lisa Lubke (Radford), Celiene Ziobro (VMI) and Erin Foote (Winthrop).
