Chants Wrap Up Regular Season with Two Game Homestand

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will conclude its regular season with games against Winthrop (Oct. 27) and Gardner-Webb (Oct. 29) at the CCU Soccer Field. First kick is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday against Winthrop and Noon on Saturday versus Gardner-Webb.

The Chanticleers enter the match coming off a draw against Charleston Southern and a 3-1 loss at Campbell last week. Kacey Kelley scored her second goal of the season to provide the Chants with a 1-nil lead early in the second half against Charleston Southern on a blast from 22-yards out. Morgan Thomas, a junior, scored her second goal of the season against Campbell by way of a penalty kick. Thomas has now converted three penalty kicks in her career to rank tops in the Chanticleer annuals.
Freshman goalkeeper Saundra Baron has recorded 53 saves in her 1,350 minutes between the posts this season to rank tenth all-time in the Coastal single season record book. The Greensboro, N.C. native also directed the Chants to back-to-back shutout wins over VMI and UNC Asheville.
Coastal defeated Winthrop 1-0 in last season's meeting to clinch a share of the program's fourth Big South regular season championship. The Chanticleers own a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series with their upstate rival.
Winthrop comes to Conway sitting second in the Big South with a 6-2 conference mark and a 10-6 overall record. The Eagles have won eight of their last 10 games with the two blemishes coming at the hands of Campbell (1-4) and Radford (0-1). Winthrop features the conference's most lethal attacking duo of Krystyna Freda and Courtney Durbin. Freda leads the Big South with 11 goals as Durbin is tied for second with 10. Additionally, Freda has attempted a whopping 80 shots and has accounted for six game-winning goals.

Prior to the match against Gardner-Webb, Coastal Carolina will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of seniors Jessie Benchley, Julia Baldwin and Tori Strengari. As part of the senior day festivities, the department of athletics and Aramark will sponsor a FREE cookout for all fans in attendance.
The Chanticleers are 4-1-1 against Gardner-Webb in the program's previous six meetings. The sides played to a scoreless draw on the Runnin' Bulldogs rain-soaked home field last season. Gardner-Webb is on a three game win streak after going winless in its previous eight matches. During the win streak, the Runnin' Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a 10-5 margin, including a 4-3 come from behind overtime victory against UNC Asheville.
Dawn Rollyson leads the Runnin' Bulldogs this season with 10 goals to rank second in the Big South. As a team, Gardner-Webb has netted 27 goals this season; however, a 1.91 goals against average has led to the Runnin' Bulldogs 5-6-5 overall record.
