Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season at High Point

More Information:

The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (6-9-2, 2-4-1 Big South) will close out the regular season portion of its schedule Saturday, Oct. 30, with a trip to High Point, N.C., to face High Point University. The Big South matchup kicks off at 7 p.m. Coastal is coming off a scoreless tie to Samford Friday and a 2-0 loss to Birmingham-Southern Sunday.

SCOUTING HIGH POINT: The Panthers (8-7, 3-3 BIg South) used four goals from Jen Evans to shut out South Carolina State 6-0 Oct. 23. High Point also fell to Birmingham-Southern last week, 3-2, as Lena Svensson and Reine DeLatt scored goals for the Panthers. High Point plays at Radford Wednesday before the Coastal game. Amy Anzovino leads HPU with nine goals and 21 points while Evans has seven goals and 19 points.

Coastal is 3-2 all-time against High Point, including a 3-0 victory in 2003. The Lady Chanticleers are 1-1 all-time against the Panthers at High Point.

BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT PICTURE: If the season ended today, Coastal would be the seventh seed in the BIg South Tournament. The Lady Chants could get as high as the fifth seed if they beat High Point Saturday, High Point loses to Radford Wednesday and Charleston Southern loses to Winthrop and Liberty. Coastal would pass High Point if its win and the Panthers lose or if Coastal defeats them and High Point and Radford tie. Coastal has to overtake Charleston Southern in points, as the Bucaneers hold the tiebreaker thanks to their 2-1 victory Oct. 13 over Coastal. Coastal can go no lower than seventh thanks to its 2-0 win over Winthrop Oct. 16. In the top of the conference, UNC Asheville needs a win over VMI Saturday to win the Big South. Birmingham-Southern is finished with the conference schedule and is guaranteed at least second since its holds the tiebreaker with Radford.
