CONWAY, S.C. Coastal Carolina University's women's soccer team made it a Chanticleers' sweep of Radford University's Highlanders with a 2-1 Big South Conference victory. The win for the Lady Chants came on the heels of Coastal's men's soccer team downing the Highlanders 1-0 earlier in the day at CCU Soccer Stadium.
All of the scoring came in the opening half as Coastal Carolina got off to a quick start on Leah Barrett's goal less than 15 minutes into play. Radford's Nikki Porter took a pass from Jevne Ried and tied the match at 19:56.
The ultimate match-winner came at 40:58 off of the foot of Coastal's Gretchen Shock with an assist from Barrett. Barrett crossed the ball from right to left and Shock collected the ball and lifted a floater over the outstretched arms of Radford keeper Brandie Malizia.
Radford outshot Coastal Carolina 9-8. Coastal Carolina keeper Candice Doten posted six saves, while Malizia had three for the Lady Highlanders.
Coastal Carolina's next match will be on Friday, October 26, when the Lady Chanticleers host The Citadel at 7:00 p.m.
