Parsons Named Big South Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Senior women’s soccer player Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced Oct. 18. This is the third straight week and fourth overall that a Lady Chanticleer has been honored by the Big South. Parsons shares the honor with UNC Asheville’s Robyn Busha.

Parsons scored the game-winning goal in both of Coastal’s victories this past week. The senior scored just 57 seconds into overtime as the Lady Chants defeated Winthrop 2-1 Oct. 12. It also was the second time this season that Parsons has won a game with a goal in overtime, as she had the game-winner in a 2-1 overtime win over Wofford Sept. 21. She then had her second hat trick of her career in a 7-1 win over Birmingham-Southern Oct. 16. Parsons connected on a penalty kick in the first half and scored two second-half goals to ice the victory.

On the season, Parsons has 11 goals and nine assists for 31 points. She leads the Big South in assists and is third in the conference in points.

This is the third time in Parsons’ career that she has earned Player of the Week honors. She previously accomplished that feat on Sept. 14 and Oct. 5, 2004.

Parsons joins senior Kristina Fisher (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) and freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) as Players of the Week in 2005. This week’s award sets a school record for number of Big South honors. In 2003, three Lady Chanticleers were Player of the Week selections.

The Lady Chanticleers will host Radford Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. The Lady Chants will have Parents and Senior Weekend, honoring seniors Parsons, Fisher, Rachel Devine (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) and Alissa Wulf (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay).
