More Information:

CONWAY, S.C. –The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (12-4, 4-2 Big South) scored a season-high seven goals and broke the team single-season goals scored record in a 7-1 win over Birmingham-Southern (5-8-1, 2-3 Big South) Oct. 16 in Conway, S.C. It was Coastal’s third straight win in Big South play.

Coastal put up three goals in the first half in a 7:30 span. At 21:11, freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) recovered a turnover by Panther goalie Andria Gray and beat her low to make it 1-0 Coastal. Four minutes later, Monroe was heading into the box on a run and was fouled by Gray, resulting in a penalty kick. Senior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) took the kick and beat Gray to the left side to make it 2-0. Then at 28:41, Monroe scored her second goal of the game and 15th of the year on a pass in the middle from sophomore Madeline Bobo (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway).

Coastal outshot the Panthers 11-3 in the first half and had a 3-1 corner-kick advantage. Junior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) made three stops in the first half, while Gray had four saves for BSC.

Coastal kept the offensive attack going in the second half. Junior Kristine Kingsbury (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) scored just 2:28 into the frame, heading the ball through the right side on a corner-kick cross from senior Kristina Fisher (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove). Parsons then scored her second goal of the game at 49:47 on a 15-yard shot with a Fisher assist, making it 5-0 CCU. Parsons would complete the hat trick at 55:56 as she beat Tina Ross to the left side. It was Parsons’ first hat trick of the season, second of her career and the fourth by a Lady Chanticleer this season. Birmingham-Southern broke up the shutout at 66:15 as Catherine Spiker converted on a corner kick with an assist from Caitlin Gordon. Fisher ended the scoring at 70:45 with a shot in the center of the box off a feed from freshman Alyssa Hunt (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins).

Coastal outshot the Panthers 19-6, including a 13-5 shot-on-goal advantage. Coastal also had seven corner kicks, compared to three for BSC. Stoll had four saves to earn her 12th win of the year, while Ross, who replaced Gray at 34:35, had two saves. Parsons had nine shots to lead CCU, while Gordon and Spiker had two apiece.

Coastal now has 45 goals on the year, breeaking its previous record of 42, set in the 2003 season. The squad also has 129 points, which broke the record of 113, set the same season.

The Lady Chanticleers will host Radford Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. The Lady Chants will have Parents and Senior Weekend, honoring seniors Parsons, Fisher, Rachel Devine (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) and Alissa Wulf (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay).
