Coastal Carolina University womens soccer player Kristina Fisher (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Womens Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Oct. 11. This is the second straight week and the third overall week that a Lady Chanticleer has been honored by the Big South.
Fisher had three goals and two assists on the week, as Coastal won a key Big South game against Charleston Southern Oct. 5. The senior netted a hat trick in the 6-2 win over the Lady Buccaneers. She scored a goal in the eighth minute to give CCU a 2-0 lead, then broke a two-all tie just 40 seconds into the second half. She wrapped up the scoring at 62:48, giving the Lady Chants its school-record tying 10th win of the season. Fisher also assisted on junior Kristine Kingsburys (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) goal in the 49th minute. Her hat trick was the third by a Coastal player this season. Coastal only had two hat tricks in the first five years of the program. Fisher also assisted on Coastals lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Western Carolina Oct. 8.
Fisher is second in school history with 17 goals and 46 points and is third with 12 assists. This is the second time in Fishers career that she has been named the Big South Player of the Week. She earned the honor Sept. 9, 2002.
Fisher joins freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) as Big South Player of the Week honorees this season. Monroe has earned the honor twice this season, Sept. 11 and Oct. 4.
The Lady Chanticleers travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop University Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.
