Monroe Named Big South Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer player Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Oct. 4. This is the second time that the freshman has earned this honor, as she was selected for the week ending Sept. 11.

Monroe had four goals in two wins this past week, including a natural hat trick in Coastal’s 6-4 win over Longwood Sept. 29. It was her second hat trick of the season, as she also did it Sept. 4 in a win over Chattanooga. Monroe also scored the second goal in CCU’s 2-0 win over VMI Oct. 1, pushing her total to 12 goals on the year. That mark broke the single-season goals scored record, which was set in 2003 by Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland). Monroe also leads the BIg South in goals scored and in points with 25 and is tied for 10th in the country with 1.00 goal per game.

Coastal (9-3-0, 1-2-0 Big South) hosts Charleston Southern University Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
