CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior defender Cami Skladany has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 24-30, the league announced Tuesday.
Skladany's play on the backline anchored a Coastal defense that recorded back-to-back shutout victories over Liberty and Longwood last week. The Chants allowed just nine shots and five shots on goal in the two games, including zero attempts on net against the Flames. In the win over Longwood, Skladany helped limit Lancers' leading scorer Kelsey Pardue to only three shots and hold her without a goal for the first time in four Big South games.
Skladany is the second Chanticleeer to be honored by the conference this season, joining sophomore forward Kacey Kelley, who was named Attacking Player of the Week last month. It is the second career Big South Defensive Player of the Week award for Skladany. The Westerville, Ohio, native was also recognized last August.
Coastal (5-6-0, 2-2-0 Big South) returns to action Thursday, Oct. 4 in a 7 p.m. game at Radford. It will be the Chants' third straight contest against a Big South team that comes in unbeaten in league play.
