The Coastal Carolina University womens soccer team (4-5-1, 0-1-1 Big South) fell to Liberty University (1-4, 1-0 Big South) 2-0 Sept. 22, at the CCU Soccer Field in Conway, S.C.
Liberty got on the board on the first shot of the game. A pass by Lauren Zealand got through the Coastal defense and keeper and Abby Mott was there to put it in the net to give the Flames a quick 1-0 lead. Coastal had five shots to Libertys four in the first half and had all four corner kicks, but the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Coastal had eight shots in the second half, but only one on goal. Junior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales) probably had the best chance, as she was 1-on-1 with the Flames keeper, but the shot went wide at 79:07. Just three minutes later, Liberty added insurance as Ashley Braam scored an unassisted goal at 82:06. Coastal had two more shots the rest of the game, but failed to score.
Sophomore Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) had three saves for the Chants, who outshot Liberty 13-8. The Flames Natalie Mayer had four saves in the shutout. Coastal also outcornered Liberty 4-2.
Senior Leah Barrett (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) led Coastal with four shots, while Braam and Mott had two shots apiece for Liberty.
Coastal will head to Statesboro, Ga., to face Georgia Southern University Friday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m.
