Women's Soccer Matches Up with Clemson and Georgia Southern

Coastal Carolina makes its final two stops on the season opening non-conference road trip this weekend. The Chants will begin play at Clemson on Friday before traveling to Georgia Southern on Sunday.

CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina makes its final two stops on the season opening non-conference road trip this weekend.  The Chants will begin play at Clemson on Friday before traveling to Georgia Southern on Sunday.  The  two games will be the eighth and ninth consecutive road contests to start the season.

Coastal Carolina was able to endure the physical style of play posed by Appalachian State tonight and come away with a 1-0 victory over the hosting Mountaineers.

Notes:  Georgia Southern sit at 2-4-0 on the season with wins over USC Upstate and Charleston Southern…The Eagles have found the net seven times compared to their opponents 13 goals…The Georgia Southern attack is lead by junior forward Sara Oland who has accounted for three goals on the season

YOUTH MOVEMENT
The Chanticleer freshmen class has made an impact in their first seven collegiate contests.  Four freshmen (Hannah Brown, Christina Stern, Alyssa Clark, and Kate Wilkinson) have appeared in all seven matches for the Chants accounting for half of Coastal shots on the season.  The freshmen class has also accounted for 37 of 69 shots and 21 of Coastal’s 43 shots on goal.  

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Senior Anna Tupy has recorded two goals on the season (CofC, Elon) upping her career goal tally to 12; thus, moving her into a tie for eighth with Emily McColl (2004-08) on the Chanticleers all-time career goals list.  Tupy’s five points on the season (two goals, one assist) moves her into sole possession of ninth on Coastal’s all-time points list with a total of 33.
Senior goal keeper Amy Haggard is also on her way further up the all-time lists in matches started, shutouts, and matches played.  Haggard leads the all-time rankings with 20 career shutouts and is ranked third in matches started and played.  

LIGHTS OUT

The Chanticleers recorded their first shutout of the season against Appalachian State.  The shutout was the 20th in the career of senior goal keeper Amy Haggard and the first under head coach Tammy DeCesare.  Haggard faced three four shots on the nigh and tallied three saves along the way.  All four shots came with under 22 minutes remaining in the game.
