Coastal Carolina women's soccer makes their return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 14 at Tennessee. Kick off for the match is slated for 7 p.m.
The Chanticleers have played seven games thus far in the season with six coming in non-conference tournaments and one at home (1-1 draw against Georgia Southern). The trip to Knoxville to play the Lady Vols will be the Chants first true road test of the season.
Coastal enters the match looking to snap a four game losing skid after dropping two contests apiece at the Liberty Invitational and College of Charleston Cup.
The Chants are ranked fifth in the Big South averaging 9.57 shots per game, while ranking sixth with 4.43 saves per contest. Sophomore Christina Stern is tied for eighth in the conference with two goals and tied for tenth with 13 shot attempts on the year.
Goalkeeper Saundra Baron leads the Big South with 650:00 total minutes played between the pipes. Baron's minutes played this season already rank her sixth in the Teal and Bronze annuals for most career minutes played in goal. Additionally, Baron's 4.00 saves per match tally ranks fourth in the conference.
After four straight wins coming by shutout, Tennessee climbed one position to No. 13 in the latest SoccerTimes.com ranking, advanced three spots to No. 16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire poll and is up to No. 23 in the latest Soccer America listing.
The Lady Vols most recent victory came in a 5-0 romp over the 49ers of Charlotte on Sept. 9. During the contest Tennessee received goals from Emily Dowd, Amy Harrison, Lexi Krause and two from Carolina Brown.
Brown and Dowd have combined for nine of Tennessee's 16 goals and five of the team's six game winners. The Vols netminder, Julie Eckel, has recorded 35 saves this season and posts a .57 goals against average.
