More Information:

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (2-3) used three first-half goals in its defeat of The Citadel (1-3-1) Sept. 14 in Charleston, S.C. The Chanticleers have now won two games in a row and have won all six career matchups against the Bulldogs.    Coastal Carolina scored its first goal at 17:52 as junior Corie Coles (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown (Lynchburg College)) fed senior Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach), who hit an eight-yard shot past Bulldog goalie Laura Serafino. It was Monroe’s first goal of the season and 35th of her career. She now is only three goals away from tying Bobbie Parsons for the Coastal Carolina career goals record. Coastal Carolina made it 2-0 at 39:01 as senior Emily McColl’s (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) 20-yard shot off a pass from junior Maegen Hellberg (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) beat Serafino for the two-goal cushion. With under a minute left in the first half, junior Sarah McPartlan’s (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge (Loyola Ill.)) 20-yard shot hit the crossbar. The rebound was collected by senior Heather Haupt (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and her shot went in to give the Chanticleers the 3-0 lead.   Coastal Carolina outshot The Citadel 8-2 in the first half and had a 3-2 corner-kick advantage. Serafino had two saves for the Bulldogs, while Monroe had three shots in the first 45 minutes to lead the Chanticleers.   Coastal Carolina would make it 4-0 at 56:04 when McColl scored her second goal of the game, this time with an assist to junior Samantha Teijelo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel). McColl now has 10 career goals and back-to-back two goals games. The Citadel would break up the shutout as Amy Loughran’s unassisted goal at 69:34 made it the final 4-1 count.   The Chanticleers finished the game with a 13-4 shot advantage. Monroe had four shots, while McPartlan added three. Sophomore Amy Haggard (Sylva, N.C./Smoky Mountain) had one save in earning her second win of the season in goal.   Coastal Carolina continues its eight-match roadtrip Friday, Sept. 19 against Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m. The match will be played in Rock Hill, S.C., on the campus of Winthrop University.
