Coastal Carolina University freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) has been named the Big South Conferences Womens Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (Sept. 13). Monroe helped the Lady Chanticleers to a 3-0 week, including a pair of one-goal victories in the JU/Best Western Invitational.
Monroe had two goals and an assist in Coastals 4-0 win over The Citadel Sept. 6 and added the games lone goal in a 1-0 win over Stetson Sept. 10. In a three-game stretch, Monroe had six goals and an assist for 13 points. Currently, Monroe is tied for the Big South lead in goals and points with High Points Traci Andersen and UNC Ashevilles Hilary McKay. She also has three game-winning goals, which is tied for the conference lead.
Coastal (5-1-0) is off to its best start in school history and has won four games in a row.
The Lady Chanticleers look to make it five wins in a row Thursday, Sept. 15, as CCU hosts Georgia Southern. Game time is at 4 p.m. CCU then opens Big South play Sunday, Sept. 18 against UNC Asheville in Asheville, N.C., at 2 p.m.
