CONWAY - Coastal Carolina sophomore forward Kacey Kelley has been named the College Sports Madness.com Big South Player of the Week, the publication announced on Monday.
Kelley earned her first-ever Player of the Week honor after scoring two goals in the Chanticleers' 3-0 victory over The Citadel last Friday. Kelley tallied her first career game-winning goal by breaking a scoreless tie in the 50th minute on a shot from just inside the penalty box. She then put in a header off a corner kick by freshman Camille Christie to give the Chants a two-goal lead at the 70-minute mark.
The two-goal performance was the first multi-goal effort by a Chanticleer since Hannah Brown scored twice in the championship game of the Big South Tournament in 2010.
In her first game back after missing two contests due to injury, Kelley recorded a team-high six shots against The Citadel, putting three on goal and hitting the crossbar with another as the Chants evened their record at 3-3-0. She now leads the team with three goals, six points and 11 shots.
The Chants return to action on Thursday, Sept. 13 at home against UNC Wilmington. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
