Women's Soccer Defeats Stetson 1-0 in the JU/Best Western Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.. –The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (4-1) won its third straight game Sept. 10 with a 1-0 victory over Stetson University (3-3) in the first day of the JU/Best Western Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. Freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C/North Myrtle Beach) scored her sixth goal in three games just 2:51 into the second half for the game’s only score.

Monroe took passes from senior Kristina Fisher (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) and junior Stepheney Gerhardt (Mohawk, N.Y./Herkimer C.C.) at 47:51 and put the shot passed Stetson goalkeeper April Eilering to give the Lady Chanticleers the 1-0 lead.

Junior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) earned her second shutout of the season by stopping three shots. It also was Coastal’s third shutout in five games.

Coastal ends the JU/Best Western Invitational Sunday, Sept. 11, by facing host Jacksonville. Game time is at 11 a.m.
