CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina University senior women's soccer player Anna Tupy has been selected as the Department of Athletics Athlete of the Week for August 23-29.
Tupy scored the first goal of the 2010 Chanticleers women’s soccer season. The goal ignited a Chanticleers rally from two goals down that saw the Chants score four unanswered goals to close out the game against the College of Charleston and earn their first victory on the season. Tupy’s goal was scored off a rebound that she controlled after the CofC keeper had punched out a cross played into the box.
Of Tupy's five shots on goal during the week; four came in the win over the College of Charleston.
The goal was the 11th in Tupy’s career and moved her into a tie for ninth for most career goals in Coastal Carolina history. Tupy's five shots on the week moves her career total to 96, which currently ranks sixth in the Coastal Carolina record books.
The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team won the first game of the 2010-11 Coastal Carolina athletics calendar by a 4-2 count over Southern Conference opponent, College of Charleston. After trailing 2-0 in the waning moments of the first half, Coastal scored two goals before half to even the game. The Chants then emerged after the half and scored two additional goals within two minutes of each other to seal the victory.
The victory was the first at Coastal Carolina for first year head coach Tammy DeCesare. The win was also the first in the collegiate career of sophomore goal keep Jessica Barton.
