Senior Kristina Fisher (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) scored two goals and added an assist as the Coastal Carolina University womens soccer team defeated Francis Marion University 3-0 August 22 in an exhibition match at the CCU Soccer Field.
Coastal outshot FMU 14-0 in the first half as the Lady Chanticleers took a 2-0 lead. At the 12:45 mark, Fisher took a pass from senior Rachel Devine (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) and went 1-on-1 for 15 yards, putting the shot past Patriots goalie Jacque Sutphin. Fourteen minutes later, Fisher scored on a similar 1-on-1 play with a feed from senior Bobbie Parsons (Portugal Cove, Newfoundland/Prince of Wales).
The Lady Chants added a goal in the second half as Devine and Fisher touched the ball to Parsons, who scored on a give and go, at 52:38. Coastal had 17 shots in the second half, 11 on goal, and had eight corner kicks in the last 45 minutes.
Sutphin had 16 saves for the Patriots, while junior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) had the shutout in goal for CCU.
Coastal opens the regular season Friday, Aug. 26, against Elon University. Kickoff at the CCU Soccer Field is at 6 p.m.
