The Lady Chanticleers earned 126 points, including two first-place votes, to trail only 2005 Big South Tournament champion Liberty in the poll. The Lady Flames earned 147 points and 11 first-place votes. The Lady Chants were followed by High Point (113 points), Charleston Southern (107 points, three first-place votes), UNC Asheville (101 points, two first-place votes), Radford (74 points), Birmingham-Southern (71 points), Winthrop (44 points) and VMI (27 points).
Monroe, last seasons Big South Freshman of the Year, garnered five first-place votes and 13 points, defeating Charleston Southerns Emma Mattsson by three points. Monroe led the Lady Chants and tied for the Big South lead with 17 goals in 2005, breaking Coastals single-season goals record. She tied for 11th in the country in goals per game and was named to the All-Big South First Team and All-Tournament Team. The sophomore was a two-time Big South Player of the Week and had seven goals in seven Big South matches.
Coastal will compete in its only exhibition of the season Saturday, Aug. 19, at Jacksonville at 6 p.m. The Lady Chants open the regular season Friday, Aug. 25, against West Georgia at 7 p.m., at the CCU Soccer Field.
