Women's Soccer Tabbed Eighth in Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In a vote of the conference head coaches, the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team was selected eighth in the Big South preseason poll, the conference office announced today.

Campbell received four first-place votes and 132 out of a possible 144 points in the voting to finish first ahead of defending champion Radford, which totaled six top votes and 130 points from the panel. High Point came in at the No. 3 position with two top bids and 122 points. In fourth was Winthrop with 101 points, followed by new Big South member Longwood at No. 5 with 90 points. Charleston Southern picked up 83 points to land at No. 6 and in seventh was Liberty with 76 points. Coastal Carolina's 65 points was good for the No. 8 slot and at No. 9 was UNC Asheville with 50 points. At No. 10 was Gardner-Webb with 46 points, followed by Presbyterian College with 23 points. VMI closed out the list with 18 points from the panel.

Coastal finished the 2011 campaign with a 2-15-2 overall record to place 10th in the final conference standings. The 2012 Chanticleers, who are led by second-year head coach Paul Hogan, return 16 members from last year's team including All-Big South second team defender Alyssa Clark and Big South All-Freshman team member Maddie Phillips. In addition, Coastal also returns its top three leading scorers in Kacey Kelley, Christina Stern and Morgan Thomas.

The 2012 campaign will also features the return of forward Cisca Okoko who was lost to injury after seven games and the debut of transfer defender Anna Lowe, who missed the entire 2011 season with an injury.

The Chants, who are already in preseason camp, play an exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 10 at East Carolina before opening the season at Southeastern Conference member Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 17.
