Women's Soccer's McColl Makes Olympic Squad for Team New Zealand
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer player Emily McColl (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) has been named to the New Zealand Olympic Women’s Soccer Team, it was announced July 3. McColl is one of 18 players that will head to China for the 2008 Games. The first game for New Zealand is August 6 against Japan in Qinhuangdao, with matches against Norway and the United States to follow.
McColl will play on the New Zealand national team for the second straight year. Last year, she was on the team at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, also in China. After the Olympics, McColl will return to Conway for her senior season. She has six career goals and eight assists in her three years at Coastal Carolina. She was an All-Big South Second Team selection in 2007 and was on the All-Big South Tournament Team in 2006.
McColl is the first Chanticleer in the Olympics, but could be joined by track and field alum Amber Campbell, who is competing in the hammer throw finals Saturday, July 5 in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
