2016 Women's Soccer Schedule
CONWAY -The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will make its move to the Sun Belt Conference in fall 2016 hosting five conference home games and traveling to ACC member Duke as part of the 2016 season schedule which was announced Monday by head coach Paul Hogan.
Coastal has faced off against three Sun Belt Conference schools including Appalachian State (3-1-2), Georgia Southern (2-2-2) and Louisiana (1-0-0). The Chants hold an overall 6-3-4 record versus Sun Belt opponents. The last matchup against a Sun Belt school was 2-1 win over Georgia Southern last season.
The Chanticleers travel to Duke for its second-ever meeting with the Blue Devils on Sunday, Aug. 28. Duke reached the NCAA finals last season, but suffered a 1-0 loss to Penn State. The matchup is part of a challenging non-conference slate that includes four road games and three home games with Wofford, Elon and College of Charleston coming to Conway.
Coastal will open the 2016 season on Friday, Aug. 19 at Furman before the Chants return to Conway for its home opener versus Wofford on Sunday Aug. 21, as the teams face each other for the fifth straight season. Then, Coastal visits former Big South rival Winthrop Aug. 26 before heading to Durham, N.C. with its matchup against Duke.
The Chanticleers return home for a two-game home stand starting the weekend off versus Elon on Thursday, Sept. 1 then meet with in-state foe College of Charleston Sunday, Sept. 4. Coastal closes out its preseason play at Jacksonville Sunday, Sept. 9. CCU also plays another non-conference match later in the season against South Carolina State Wednesday, Sept. 19.
In Sun Belt Conference play, the Chanticleers begin with two home matches and also close out conference play at home. Their home conference opener is against Arkansas State on Sept. 5. Coastal also hosts Appalachian State (Sept. 16), Louisiana Monroe (Oct. 7) and Arkansas Little Rock (Oct. 9) before the season finale against Louisiana on Oct. 23.
A three-game road swing begins Oct. 23 as CCU travels to Georgia State. Other conference road games are Georgia Southern (Sept. 30), Texas State (Oct. 2), Troy (Oct. 14) and then closes out its road games versus defending Sun Belt Champions South Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The 2016 Sun Belt Women's Soccer Championship is slated to be held at a neutral site in Foley, Alabama. The eight-team tournament will be held November 2-6 at the newly opened Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
Coastal is coming off a 12-win season that included a runner-up finish in the Big South and its second straight semifinal appearance. Three all-conference honorees, including Big South Freshman of the Year Kayla Christian, are among 17 returners. The Chanticleers with play two road exhibition matches against Charleston Southern (Aug. 11) and ACC member Wake Forest (Aug. 13).
