Inaugural Sand Soccer Tournament Caps Spring Season

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team wrapped up its spring season with the inaugural Coastal Carolina Sand Soccer Tournament on Sunday, April 10.

The event, which was held at Bummz at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, featured teams of four playing on a scaled down field was set up roughly 30 yards from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Six teams partook in the round robin style tournament, including five squads of active Chanticleers and one team of alumni from the class of 2011.

The finals of the tournament featured the match-up of current Chants Alyssa Clark, Shelby Butz, Jessica Johnson and Ali Morin against Colleen Schohl, Sara Niles, Karen Pavlick and Anna Tupy of the class of 2011. The current Chanticleers won the match by a 2-1 final to claim the inaugural Coastal Carolina Sand Soccer Tournament championship. Clark and Johnson scored for the winning team, while Tupy scored for the alumni.

The Chanticleers will reconvene in August to start preparing for a run at the Big South Conference championship and the University’s first ever bid to the NCAA tournament.
