Women's Soccer Blog #3 - Costa Rica Trip

Day 4- March 18   This morning as a team we had one of the most rewarding experiences while here in Costa Rica. We arrived to El Manantial, which is a day care for children that need to escape dangerous situations at home. We brought gifts to donate to the shelter and then spent the morning playing with the kids. They enjoyed piggy-back rides and playing soccer with us. It was a chance for us to make a difference in each kid’s life by spending some time with them and showing them the attention that they aren’t getting at home. Before we left they shared a prayer with us and thanked us for visiting. Many of the girls became attached in the short hour that we spent there. Later in the afternoon we went on to play our third game this trip against one of the pro teams from San Jose. After a tough battle we ended the game with a 2-2 tie. To wrap up our day we had a cultural presentation after dinner. A group came and performed two different styles of dancing for us and some of the girls were asked to join in. This was an opportunity for us to gain more insight into the Costa Rican culture.   -- Colleen Schohl, Kelsey Havell, Sara Niles
